The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated twice a month at St. Monica and St. Rosalie Parish: the first and third Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m. (some exceptions due to Holy Days and liturgical celebrations). Please call the Parish Office at 773-763-1661 to register for the Baptismal Preparation program and to set a date for the Baptism. More information can be found below.

Baptismal Preparation Classes

Baptismal Preparation class instructs parents and godparents about the importance of the Sacrament of Baptism and their roles as parents and godparents. Godparents and parents are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation class. Please call the Parish Office at 773-763-1661 to schedule a Baptismal Preparation class and Baptismal ceremony.

Parents

Parents must be active and registered parishioners for at least 6 Months. If the parents are registered at a church other than St. Monica and Rosalie Parish, a letter of permission is needed from the Pastor of that church.
The Parish Office must view the County issued Birth Certificate and will make a copy for our records.
A Baptismal Prep Class must be completed before the Baptism. They are usually held on the first Monday of the month. See below this page or in the Parish Bulletin for upcoming dates.
Suggested Offering for the Baptism for parishioners is $100.
Suggested Offering for the Baptism for non-parishioners is $150.

Godparents

Godparents must be Confirmed practicing Catholics 16 years of age or older, and there must be at least one Godparent. A letter of eligibility is needed from the Parish where the Godparents are registered.
They cannot be the parent of the child being baptized.
At least one Godparent must be a practicing Catholic. However, the second Godparent can be a practicing Christian known as a Christian Witness.
Godparents must be one male and one female.
Godparents cannot be the same sex (2 females or 2 males).

Baptismal Preparation Classes

The Baptismal Prep Class is held in the foyer of St. Monica Church which is located at:
5136 N. Nottingham, Chicago, IL.
*Class must be completed prior to the scheduled baptism*
Please note, the Baptismal date will not be scheduled until all appropriate paperwork is received. If you have previously completed a Baptismal Preparation Class, call the Parish Office to determine if a second one is needed.
Please submit all the necessary documents to the parish office at least two weeks prior to the scheduled date of baptism.
